International
MIMAS 3 conference

The upcoming international MIMAS3 conference will bring together researchers working on marine microbial ecology and interactions, as well as the functional roles of key bacterial groups in ocean systems. We are combining the scientific scopes of the MIMAS and Marine Flavobacteria conference series to foster exchange across disciplines and strengthen a growing, yet still fragmented, research community.

Marine Flavobacteria

Members of the family Flavobacteriaceae are abundant and diverse components of marine microbial communities. They occupy a wide range of ecological niches, from the water column and sediments to associations with algae, plants, and animals. Marine flavobacteria fulfill key ecological roles, including organic matter degradation, symbiosis, and pathogenicity. Large-scale sampling campaigns and meta-omics approaches have revealed remarkable taxonomic and functional diversity, as well as their central role in marine ecosystem functioning. At the same time, model organisms have enabled detailed mechanistic insights into processes such as substrate utilization, secretion systems, and microbial interactions. This conference will provide a platform to connect researchers across these different levels of investigation.

Microbial interactions in marine systems (MIMAS)

Marine microorganisms constantly interact with their biotic and abiotic environment, often forming intimate associations that shape ecosystem processes and global biogeochemical cycles. Recent technological advances, including meta-omics and single-cell approaches, now allow unprecedented insights into microbial diversity and functions in situ. At the same time, cultivation-based studies and detailed biochemical analyses remain essential to unravel the molecular mechanisms underlying microbial interactions. Building on the MIMAS conference series, this meeting will highlight research on microbial trophic interactions, symbioses, and the molecular basis of glycobiological processes, with a particular focus on linking ecological patterns to mechanistic understanding.

The conference will gather leading experts as well as early career researchers to discuss recent discoveries and emerging questions in an open and collaborative atmosphere. We aim to encourage the presentation of unpublished data and new ideas, fostering interdisciplinary exchange and new collaborations. Further details on the scientific program and session topics will follow soon.
